MISS PICKLE

1519016_581341495268826_1374642307_oMISS PICKLE  is a 27 inch black mini that was found in a for sale pen in Maine. It was apparent she was sick and was not even trying to defend herself being beat up by another pony. She just stood there, looking at me and she was sick and so very sad.   We asked if we could save her. We paid for her and brought her home. Miss Pickle, not only had pneumonia but she also had Strangles. What a scary diagnosis as it can spread so quickly to other so we had to keep her quarantined. Some days Miss Pickle had to have her temperature taken 4-6 times a day as it would spike so high we thought she would lose her battle to live.

Four flying trips to our Veterinarian, which is about 110 mile, round trip. This one pictures shows what this little one had to endure to get the strangles under control. The top is not a finger it is the volcano of pus bursting out of the deep slice into her neck area. She could not even put her head down to drink and it took constant care for about 3 months to get her back to health. Update: Miss Pickle has a sponsor! Thank you Mary Warren. Mary calls Pickle “her Princess”

NEKO

WOW, everyone said she would not live, she would have severe behavior issues if she did and that she would never learn to drink and that she would not live. That was unacceptable to us. Well, Neko lived, with lots of TLC, ingenuity on how to make a nipple that a foal would accept and within days she was drinking goats’ milk. Neko does have a serious issue that we do not know what it is in her throat. Neko needs to go to a large animal hospital to be scoped. She also needs to be diagnosed as she is developing life-threatening allergies each passing year.

GOOSE:

A Life Line pulled goose from a load of horses that had been brought into Maine to sell.   Immediately, we saw the scars and how he put his right hind foot down and we felt positive this horse had no idea where his right hind leg was and certainly should not be sold to be ridden. When walking, Goose took steps only about 4-6 inches in a stride. VERY ABNORMAL…especially for a shod horse walking in a normal drive way with very tiny pebbles.   To make a visual picture, imagine someone with a gun held on them telling them to walk on sharp nails every step. Yes, sadly that is how he walked on both front feet and his right hind leg, he could lift but very clear he had NO idea when it hit ground!

Upon inspection of Goose’s front feet his heels had been totally contracted together and the shoes on his front feet were adding to the contraction on his heels. Upon pointing this out a very kind man said we could purchase him for what he had paid and agreed with our assessment. We paid and brought Goose to A Life Line. Got those horrid shoes off and went to work on his horrid case of thrush and consulted with our farrier to get him some relief and start with corrective actions.

It was very apparent that on his trip from Minnesota, his last traceable home that Goose probably went down in the trailer and had many superficial scars everywhere, head, broken bone in lower face, neck, shoulders, back, legs and overall body that needed attending to. This was heal-able and the first year we got all that cleaned up and our amazing blacksmith got his feet to where he could even trot and sometimes lope with the others.

Update: Goose has a sponsor. Thank you Vicki Goodwin.  Olimometer 2.52

DEVIL NEVILLE:

He needs to have a surgical castration similar to a blind stallion cost unknown until warmer weather.   Dr. Coville is willing to give this a try and would save huge on costs of not going to a Southern Animal Hospital. This we have been told, needs to happen as a previous owner was said to have tried castrating him with an elastic.
